The Gindie Lady name
The Gindie Lady name came about in two ways. Around the time of COVID, my husband and I found ourselves looking for a new home (and quickly). We both needed somewhere to be that allowed us to relax into our empty nest next phase of our lives . Through beautiful synchronicities and good friends we landed in a charming old house, called Sandhurst in a small agricultural community. Just 10 minutes from the township of Emerald where we have lived and worked since 2003. (Except for a two year escape from the Queensland heat to complete my internship as a psychologist). I worked from this location as a psychologist in private practice and began to be referred to around town as ‘the Gindie lady’ and it just seemed continued.
Gindie nestles between stunning Springsure and the Minerva Hills and Emerald. The climate is mild and very pleasant in Winter, Spring and Autumn though Summers can reach temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius on some days. Being only a short drive from Lake Maraboon, bird watching and fishing is also a leisure activity for locals and tourists. Emerald has a population of approximately 15,000 people who enjoy the benefits of country living whilst having access to shopping centres, bakeries, cafes, restaurants, a magnificent crystal shop and even the largest Van Gogh painting of the Sunflowers in the southern hemisphere. Cropping and livestock farming surrounds the community.
Located on the Gregory Highway, situated nearby majestic grain silos and Gindie’s community centre and tennis court, life is very relaxed and peaceful. Night skies clear of street lighting for star gazing, unobstructed view of spectacular Central Queensland sunrises and sunsets. All within 90 minute drive are internationally coveted Gemfields, Blacktown Tableland forests with sampling facilities nd so much more.
